Md. Qumruzzaman Chowdhury is a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology where he has been a faculty member since 2001. He also currently served as the Proctor there. He was born in the district of Noakhali in 1977 in a respectable Muslim family. He received a B.Sc. from Khulna University and M.Sc. from the Netherland’s (Wageningen University).

He completed his Ph.D. at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan on Forest and Wood Science. His research interests lie in the area of Dendrochronology, Wood anatomy, Wood quality; Tree growth and different  tradeoffs; climate, hydraulics, biomechanics, wood quality in relation to forest management and environmental factors.

He was a postdoctoral Researcher on Laboratory of Wood Biologyand Xylarium, at Royal Museum for Central Africa in Belgium. He is proficiently trained in Tropical Forest Ecology and Management and Energy for Sustainable Development Specialization from the Netherlands and Sweden.

He was honoured by Postdoctoral fellowship from Belgian Federal Science Policy Office co-founded by the Marie Curie Actions from the European Commission, Japanese Government Scholarship, Netherlands Government Fellowship and Khulna University Merit Scholarship.

Dr. Qumruzzaman has around 25 publications in several peer reviewed scientific journals. He has served on roughly fourteen conference and seminar in home and abroad.

He has professional membership and community involvement in different organizations and associations.
