Department of English

Orientation of Department of English
English language is central to the education, research and investigation of knowledge in modern world. It is currently the most wide spread language in the world, second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of the amount of people which speak it, but second to none in terms of importance and the number of people learning it. It is the primary language used for communication across the globe, in both political and business arenas. It has even become the language of today's pop culture as well.

On the other hand, the study of English literature allows people to develop new ideas and ethical standpoints, and can help individuals to present themselves as educated members of society. Studying English literature can be an enriching, eye-opening experience.

Department of English in Leading University started its voyage from the very beginning of this university as one of the three departments that inaugurated the academic activities of Leading University. The first batch of the department started their class on March 04, 2002 with a number of ----- faculty members and 13 bright, enthusiastic students. Over the period of time English Department has been one of most successful departments of the university as she produced hundreds of successful and qualified graduates of English who proved to be strong contenders in today’s highly competitive job-market. With a view to widen its range of accomplishment, the department also runs Masters of Arts (Preliminary & Final) programme to provide most up-to-date syllabus in the field of linguistics, literary movements and contemporary literary tradition around the globe.

Department of English, LU believes that study of English language and literature could be the single-most viable solution to today’s multifarious world scenario, and would forever bear the torch of Enlightenment to her promise.

At present the Department offers Bachelor of Arts program at undergraduate level. Beside this, the English Department offers General Education Courses in English to students of other Departments.
